2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8 Hauls in More Ways Than One

Powered by a 425-horsepower (317-kW), 6.1-liter HEMI® V-8 and possessing 71.6 cubic feet of cargo space, the 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8 provides plenty of utility as well as incredible Street and Racing Technology (SRT) performance.

That performance includes a 0-60-mph time in the low 5-second range, 0-100-0 mph in under 17 seconds and a 60-0-mph stopping distance of approximately 110 feet.

But the 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8’s performance isn’t just acceleration and braking. There’s also world-class ride and handling across a dynamic range; race-inspired interior appointments; and functional, performance-oriented exterior styling.

“High performance and utility don’t have to be mutually exclusive,” said Kipp Owen, Director – Street and Racing Technology, Chrysler Group. “The 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8 provides all the signature SRT performance. This is a sport-tourer that can generate 0.88 g on the skid pad, with seating for five and enough cargo room in the rear to handle a 27-inch television.”

The 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8’s modified front fascia increases cooling through integrated ducts that help direct air to cool the brakes. A front air dam reduces lift, while in the rear, a modified fascia with an integrated wake modifier and aggressive cutouts accommodate dual 3.5-inch exhaust tips.

Dodge Magnum SRT8 styling is also unique with a black honeycomb grille insert, satin-finish front and rear bumper inserts, body-color mirrors and door handles, and unique SRT badging.

The 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8’s interior features power-adjustable, deeply sculpted and highly bolstered sport seats in the front, complete with performance suede inserts to hold occupants during maneuvering. All seats have contrasting red stitching.

Other amenities befitting the performance-oriented character of the 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8’s interior include carbon fiber-leather trim for better grip on the steering wheel, special carbon fiber finishing on the center stack, and full-performance instrumentation, including a 180-mph (300-kph) speedometer, a tachometer and a temperature gauge.

SRT engineers developed the Dodge Magnum SRT8’s HEMI V-8 engine to produce 425 horsepower (317 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. (569 N•m) of torque by adding cubic inches, increasing the compression ratio, and redesigning the cylinder head and intake and exhaust systems for better flow and increased engine speed.

Power for the SRT 6.1-liter HEMI is channeled through a five-speed automatic transmission with specially calibrated, driver-selectable Auto Stick, which offers fully automatic or manual shifting selection. A heavy-duty, four-flange prop shaft sends the torque from the transmission to an upgraded differential and axles.

Chassis setup for the 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8 is aimed at all-around performance with SRT-tuned dampers, tailored spring rates and suspension bushings, and large-diameter anti-sway bars. For added stability and aerodynamic benefit, the ride height of the Magnum SRT8 is one-half inch lower than the Dodge Magnum, while the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) has been tuned for the 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT8’s performance-handling characteristics.

The braking system of the 2007 Magnum SRT8 features performance calipers developed by Brembo and finished in red. Each is equipped with four pistons, gripping 360 mm x 32 mm vented rotors up front, with 350 mm x 26 mm vented rotors in the rear.
