  • Chrysler Canada is second highest seller of vehicles in the country calendar-year-to-date
  • Total sales up 17 per cent
  • 18 consecutive months of sales growth
  • Sales records set for Jeep Wrangler, Ram truck and Dodge Journey
  • Chrysler Canada repays Ontario and Federal government loans in full and with interest
Windsor, Ontario May 31, 2011 - Chrysler Canada today reported total sales of 24,406 for the month of May 2011, representing an increase of 17 per cent over the same period, one year ago. Chrysler Canada has become the second highest seller of vehicles in Canada calendar-year to date.

"It is one of those unique times when everything is going right," said Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Chrysler Canada.  "Thanks to our Fiat alliance, we now have 14 vehicles with greater than 35 MPG or less than 8L/100km, that's more than Toyota, Honda and Ford.  As a result, we remain the fastest growing automaker in Canada for the second year in a row.  In fact, we are also now the second highest seller of vehicles in Canada, thanks to a great month of May."

Just last week, Chrysler Group LLC announced the repayment of its outstanding Canadian and U.S. government loans in full and with interest, six years ahead of schedule.

Sales Highlights
Setting an all-time record, the iconic Jeep Wrangler was purchased by 1,918 Canadians this month. Jeep Grand Cherokee sales nearly quadrupled in May, 2011 with 944 units sold, compared to the same period in 2010.

Canada's best-selling crossover, the fuel-efficient Dodge Journey set a May sales record with 2,812 sales, up 48 per cent from May, 2010.  Ram trucks also set a May sales record with 5,428 units sold, representing a 23 per cent increase.

Total car sales increased 12 per cent for the month, led by the Chrysler 200 sedan with 769 units. The all-new, fuel-efficient, stylish and affordable Fiat 500 continues to resonate well in the Canadian marketplace, posting 651 sales for the month.

"We have the newest line-up on the market with 16 all-new or significantly refreshed vehicles in our showroom," said Dave Buckingham, Vice President of Sales, Chrysler Canada. "With car sales up 12 per cent for the month, we are almost single-handedly driving the small car industry growth in Canada."

Chrysler Canada remains the only manufacturer to have "2 of the Top 3" best-selling vehicles in the country with Dodge Grand Caravan and Ram truck.
