Statement: Brake Performance

August 23, 2018 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -  FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 154,337 vehicles in the U.S., about one-third of which are in dealer hands, to inspect and bleed their brake systems, as needed.

An investigation by FCA US discovered certain shipments of a supplied brake-system component had not been manufactured to specification and were inadvertently installed on vehicles during spring 2018.

In new vehicles with very low mileage, these components may cause gas bubbles to form in a vehicle’s brake fluid. Brake function would remain in such circumstances, but stopping distances may be increased.

FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents, and the Company’s investigation revealed no customer complaints. However, FCA US urges affected customers to heed the instructions on their recall notices.

The recall affects certain 2018 Dodge Journey CUVs, 2018-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, 2018-2019 Jeep Compass SUVs and 2019 Jeep Cherokee SUVs.

Customer notification is imminent, however, dealers have been advised which vehicles are affected and are providing service accordingly. Customers with questions or concerns may contact their dealers or call the FCA US Customer Care Center at 1-800-853-1403.

Additional vehicles will be subject to recall in Canada (est. 19,066), Mexico (est. 900) and certain markets outside the NAFTA region (est. 35,562).
