November 5, 2020 , Windsor, Ontario -  FCA Canada announced today that it has been awarded as the Co-op/Internship Employer of the Year for the 2019 calendar year by the University of Windsor’s Co-op, Career and Employment Services department. FCA Canada is a leading employer, actively engaged in developing a strong skilled workforce with an eye on the future. Each year, a number of students from multiple engineering backgrounds are placed within the company’s Automotive Research and Development Centre (ARDC) and Windsor Assembly Plant facilities in Windsor, Ontario. Since FCA Canada’s partnership with the University of Windsor began at ARDC in 1996, there have been more than 540 co-op placements at the ARDC alone.

“FCA Canada has a long history of collaboration with the University of Windsor, and we are thankful for this award that recognizes the valuable opportunities we provide to students, as well as the many contributions they provide to FCA,” said Jacqueline Oliva, Head of Human Resources – FCA Canada. “These placements have a lasting impact on students by enhancing their academic skillset with invaluable ‘hands-on’ experience that lays a strong foundation as they prepare to enter the workforce. They often work on projects and assignments that have a direct impact in the development and production of FCA vehicles, which is an invaluable experience for a student.”

“FCA Canada and the University of Windsor have had a long-standing partnership in many aspects of education and career development,” said Judy Bornais, Executive Director of the Office of Experiential Learning at the University of Windsor. “We are thrilled to be able to present this award and recognize the exceptional work term experiences provided to our co-op students throughout the year. Together, our partnerships enrich our communities and provide students with opportunities to grow and develop into the leaders of tomorrow. These work-integrated learning opportunities not only benefit the students, but also provide FCA with a pipeline of exceptional UWindsor talent. It really is a win-win partnership. Congratulations on being a Co-op/Internship Employer of the Year Award recipient.”

In 2019, FCA Canada employed 30 co-op students in placements within the ARDC in Windsor. Students participated in project-based assignments and roles within engineering disciplines, such as electrical, mechanical, as well as environmental sustainability. At the Windsor Assembly Plant, 18 engineering co-op students participated in placements within the vehicle production quality department. The Windsor Assembly Plant also hires a number of students from the University of Windsor as full-time production supervisors during the summer.
