This week, Matt Bejnarowicz, Lead Engineer – SRT Motorsports, which will field two SRT Viper GTS-Rs in the GT Class, provides the keys for Sunday’s race.Track: Road America (Race 6 of 10 in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron)Race: Orion Systems 245 at Road AmericaTrivia Question: SRT Motorsports’ Viper GTS-Rs have earned two pole positions in GT Class since returning to the American Le Mans Series last year. At what races were the poles earned?MATT BEJNAROWICZ (Lead Engineer – SRT Motorsports)Downforce vs. Straight-Line Speed: “We want to make sure that the Vipers have the right mix of downforce and straight-line speed. We don’t want to put too much of a parachute on them to get the cars through the corners. We had a good grasp on the aerodynamics right off the truck. Typically, the Porsches are fast here because it’s a little bit of a cleaner car, but we’re in good shape.”Tire Management: “You’re going to have to keep an eye on track temperature. Getting a handle on how much the track temps are going to grow will be important.”Tire Selection: “We have two different tire compounds – a hard and a soft. If the track temperature comes up too high, you’re going to wear out the tires during a stint. How you keep the tires underneath the car for a full stint will be really important.”Small Handling Tweaks: “To be successful at Road America, you always get rewarded if your car is stable heading into the braking zones. A lot of the tracks that we race on are high-speed entries where you don’t have to stand on the brakes and turn the car. The more stable the car is and the more a driver can challenge the corner with confidence it’s not going to snap loose will result in higher speeds and more confidence in the passing zones.”TRIVIA ANSWER: 2013 – Long Beach (Dominik Farnbacher, No. 91 SRT Viper GTS-R) and Mosport (Jonathan Bomarito (No. 93 Pennzoil Ultra SRT Viper GTS-R)- 30 -
