Behind the wheel of the No. 199 Red Bull/Discount Tire Dodge Dart, Timerzyanov, a native of the Russian Republic of Kazan, Tatarstan, claimed his best finish of the 2013 Global Rallycross season subbing for primary driver Travis Pastrana. Timerzyanov earned his way into the feature by finishing second in the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). He grabbed the lead on the opening lap of the four-lap dash and held the top spot until Dave Mirra slipped by on the final lap. The top three advanced to the feature, joining the first two finishers in the three six-lap heat races. In the feature event, Timerzyanov again started well then avoided trouble in the opening moments of the 10-lap dash to march to fifth-place.“Not bad if you see how we started the day,” Timerzyanov said. “With all the issues we had, today’s fifth-place finish in the feature is good and the guys on the team are happy. Ken Block had a problem on the start and I had to brake and turn to the left to get past him. That took away a good start which is so important in Global Rallycross racing.”Henning Solberg, filling in for Bryce Menzies in the No. 99 Red Bull/Discount Tire Dodge Dart, battled mechanical gremlins all day. Fuel pump issues hampered Solberg during practice and qualifying and any chance he had to transfer to the main event ended with a broken driveshaft on the first lap of the LCQ.“I tried my best but that’s how it is,” Solberg said. “The driveshaft came out in the first corner (of the LCQ race). It just snapped. The car is not bad. I have to say the car is good but it needs some work. It will be good when we get some things fixed.”Toomas Heikkinen won Saturday’s race at Atlanta followed by Tanner Foust (second) and Sverre Isachsen (third). The win was the fifth straight by Heikkinen. The next event for the Global Rallycross Championship is at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway on Sept. 22.
