The all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger offers customers a full range of innovative technologies.

With Keyless Go push button start, Remote Start and uconnect phone, customers will have their hands free to enjoy the drive. To make the ride even more enjoyable, additional innovative features under the uconnect umbrella include iPod interface and SIRIUS® Satellite Radio.

“Our all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger comes armed with the flexibility to personalize the driving experience,” said Chris Nowak, Lead Engineer – Dodge Challenger, Chrysler LLC. “Dodge Challenger owners will have the ability to start their car with the simple push of a button, upload their own soundtrack for the journey, and communicate hands-free.”

uconnect phone

Chrysler’s uconnect phone uses Bluetooth® technology to provide voice-controlled wireless communication between the occupants’ compatible mobile phones and the vehicle’s onboard receiver. New for 2009, the hands-free system automatically downloads up to 1,000 phone book entries from supported phones. The system also recognizes three languages. Voice commands manage onboard phone book entries, select radio stations and access voice mail. Voice memos may be recorded using the microphone that’s integrated within the rearview mirror. Three memos of up to 30 seconds each may be stored in the system.

Other uconnect phone features include:

  • Audio address book: Thirty-two names, four numbers per name, for a total of 128 phone numbers may be stored in the system
  • Emergency calls and towing assistance: Voice command dials 911 or towing assistance
  • Audio-system mute: Mutes the microphone for privacy
  • Call transfer: Allows the customer to transfer a call from the vehicle’s system to a mobile phone for privacy or when leaving the car
  • Multi-phone recognition: Recognizes as many as seven phones that may be used within the system

Also available on the all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger is iPod interface, which allows an iPod to be plugged into the vehicle’s sound system to play music through the vehicle’s speakers, charge/recharge the iPod when the ignition is on, display artists and music choices on the radio, and pause play when uconnect phone receives a phone call. The iPod may be controlled through radio controls and the remote steering wheel switches (if equipped). The system uses a Universal Customer Interface (UCI) connector located either in the glove box or in the center console, depending on vehicle model.

uconnect gps

uconnect gps combines the features of uconnect phone and uconnect tunes with navigation and real-time traffic. The system includes an integrated voice recognition system and touch screen for easy operation. The voice recognition system also recognizes more than 100,000 words and can input addresses, which allows the customer to enter destinations while the vehicle is in motion. The navigation system has both 2-D and 3-D bird’s-eye views of roads and multiple route calculations. Maps and guidance are displayed on a 6.5-inch video graphics array (VGA) thin-filament-transistor (TFT) display. The TFT screen uses active matrix for viewing from angles up to 180 degrees — perfect for the center of an instrument panel.

uconnect tunes (only available when packaged with uconnect gps on the Dodge Challenger)

uconnect tunes includes the following features for music, movie and personalized picture display:

  • A 30-gigabyte hard drive for ripping up to 6,700 songs from CD or USB memory devices in compressed format (either MP3, AAC or WMA file formats)
  • An integrated music jukebox supports Gracenote file management to add song, artist and album information to music files
  • Photos may be loaded onto the hard drive, allowing the customer to personalize the home screen
  • Movies may be displayed on the screen for entertaining passengers when the vehicle is in Park (as permitted by state regulations)

In addition, all of Dodge Challenger’s available radio head units feature a 3.5 mm audio input jack for easy connection to any MP3 player. The standard audio system features four speakers, AM/FM stereo and CD playback. Two premium Boston Acoustics® sound systems are available in Dodge Challenger, including a seven-speaker system with 368 watts. This system includes an eight-inch single coil subwoofer and an eight-channel amplifier that delivers excellent sound quality and clarity. An optional radio features an integrated six-disc CD/DVD changer that plays back CDs with MP3 and WMA files. Loading the changer with CDs or discs full of MP3-formatted music will provide thousands of miles of music.

uconnect studios

Chrysler’s uconnect studios featuring SIRIUS Satellite Radio provides more than 130 channels, including 69 channels of 100 percent commercial-free music, plus sports, news, talk and entertainment. Station selection with the radio is easy, using the same familiar method as choosing an AM or FM station. Consumers are able to scan channels or have preset buttons for their favorite channels. They may also search both by music category and channel, which is displayed on the radio screen.

Real-time traffic navigation is enabled by SIRIUS Satellite Radio. SIRIUS utilizes its nationwide satellite-radio broadcast capabilities to provide subscribers with updated traffic information where available and selects the best available route.

Remote Start

Remote Start is available on Dodge Challenger R/T and is standard on SRT8® models with an automatic transmission. With Remote Start, the customer may start the vehicle from up to 300 feet away by using the key fob.

Keyless Go

Also available on the Dodge Challenger is the Keyless Go function that allows the driver to start the vehicle with the simple push of a button on the instrument panel. With the Keyless Go function, a driver may start or stop the engine as long as the vehicle key fob is within the vehicle passenger compartment.
