Download Print The Chrysler African American Network and the UAW-Chrysler National Training Center Join Forces to Raise $16,458 for UNCF 23rd Annual 5K Walk for Education More Than 100 Chrysler Group LLC Employees, Friends and Family Walk for Education August 26, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - In conjunction with the UNCF’s 23rd Annual 5K Walk for Education, the Chrysler African American Network (CAAN) and the UAW-Chrysler National Training Center (NTC) today announced they had raised a total of $16,458 in support of the UNCF. The funds will assist the UNCF in providing scholarships for Michigan students and programming at its 39 member colleges and universities. The event was held earlier today on Belle Isle in Detroit. "Today, we’re making strides around Belle Isle to ensure that a new generation of students can pursue their dream of attaining a higher education,” said Daphne Harris, Chrysler Group Manager Civic and Community Relations and an executive champion for this year’s Walk for Education. “In fact, a UNCF scholarship enabled me to attain a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Spelman College in Atlanta.” Starting in early April, members of CAAN, one of six Chrysler Group employee resource groups (ERGs) that promote cultural awareness and inclusion throughout the company, embarked on a campaign to raise $10,000. By the start of today’s Walk for Education, the group had exceeded its goal, raising a total of $11,458 and registering more than 100 employees, friends and family members to participate in the walk. The NTC contributed an additional $5,000 to bring the grand total to $16,458. "Our leadership teams are convinced that supporting the improvement of the health and well-being of our members and their communities is vital to developing a successful and sustainable union and Company for the future," said General Holiefield, UAW Vice President and Director the UAW Chrysler Department.
