TUMBLE, MECHANICAL GREMLINS HAMPER TICKLE IN UTAH NATIONAL
August 16, 2013 , Tooele, Utah -  The inaugural Utah National at Miller Motorsports Park was downright rude to Broc Tickle.

Tickle was hampered by a tumble in the first moto and mechanical problems in the second, which added up to a 19th-place overall finish. The sour luck ended an impressive streak of eight consecutive top-10 finishes. Tickle remains eighth in the series rider championship standings.

Tickle started the day with solid runs in practice and qualifying, earning an eighth-place starting position for Moto 1. He had a respectable start in the race and was running solidly inside the top 10 when he briefly came off his bike halfway through the race. He dropped from ninth all the way back to 18th in the running order. Over the final nine laps Tickle picked up four positions to claim 14th at the checkered flag.

“I had a good ride going actually until I crashed in the first moto,” Tickle said. “I hit the ground hard so it took me a while to get going. I got back on the bike and finished the race and regrouped. Dr. G (Dr. H. Rey Gubernick) actually came over and hooked me up with a little adjustment.”

The second moto was not near as kind to the Holly, Mich., native. Tickle was shuffled back on the initial start of the race, slipping to 22nd by the end of the first lap. From there he mounted a rally, steadily picking off positions and by the 18-minute mark of the 30-minute race he was up to 13th. Moments later, his No. 20 Suzuki fell victim to mechanical gremlins and his race was over. He finished 32nd.

“On the first lap (in the second moto) I stalled my bike there in the pack and lost probably five or 10 positions before the first lap was over,” Tickle said. “But I felt really good; I felt awesome. I just had a little problem with the bracket on one of our electrical pieces and the bike wouldn’t run anymore. It kind of stinks but it is what it is. It’s the first mechanical problem we’ve had all year so I can’t complain about that.”

Ryan Villopoto claimed the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship event in grand style, sweeping both motos on the way to claiming the overall victory in the Utah National. Ryan Dungey was credited with second followed by Trey Canard in third. The 12th and final race of the motocross season is scheduled for August 24 in Lake Elsinore, Calif.
