“I felt awesome in practice and the first moto but I struggled. I wasn’t tired. It was hot but I didn’t have it going for the whole moto. I regrouped and tried to figure out what I needed to do to step it up. I crashed on the second or third lap in Moto 2 but got going and honestly, I felt the best I did all day there at the end and was pumped the last couple laps.

“The main focus now is to work hard in the offseason and get myself where I can impress. I feel like I’m solid but I want to be the one that impresses and I need to figure out what I need to do to do that. I’m going to take a couple weeks off and get ready for Monster Cup. Hopefully I can pull everything together and ride to my full potential.

“This year was good, I mean ninth in Supercross and eighth in Motocross. I want to be up there. I’m going to do what it takes in practice during the offseason to take that next step.”

HOW BIG OF A FACTOR WAS THE HEAT TODAY? “It was pretty hot today. I think at the end of the (second) moto it showed that I liked the heat. The first moto, I just never got that flow going and struggled the whole time. I’m looking forward to the offseason. It’s been a good year with the team. They did a great job and I’m looking forward to working really hard with them in the offseason. When we go to Monster Cup, we can be better than what we were during the motocross season and when we get to Anaheim (2014 Supercross season opener), we’ll be even better than that.”

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS PAST SEASON? “It was a pretty decent year. It was a new team and new bike for me. Guys have struggled doing that (new team and bike) and I did this year. The guys really did work hard this year and for me, I felt like I worked hard. It’s time to figure out what gets my motor going for me and get myself figured out a hundred percent so that we can get some podiums, start there and go off of that.”

HOW WAS THE TRACK TODAY? “Everybody kind of knew that Elsinore was going to be gnarly. It just had everything on it. I mean it was hard in some places, greasy in others and deep in others. It was rutted and it was hard packed in others places so it had everything. I got my groove there at the end of the second moto and it felt awesome. I wish I could have figured that out early in the race.

“The team obviously did a good job this year. I have everything I need to do it; it’s just me at this point.”

HOW WAS YOUR YEAR AS AN OWNER? “You know, it was pretty good. I think we were right where we wanted to be. The whole Ram/Sycuan Suzuki was really good. The team was awesome. I had a good time. We’ll just keep building for next year.”
