Site Background:  The Chelsea Proving Grounds, located about 70 miles from the FCA US headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, opened in 1954. With most of the facility operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it conducts 85 percent of vehicle testing scenarios including impact barrier tests; safety sled; emissions build and testing; emissions development and certification; powertrain calibration; performance and fuel economy; corrosion tests; and brake systems development and certification.

The Company announced in September 2018 that it has invested more than $30 million at the facility to further development and testing of autonomous vehicle and advanced safety technologies. The all-new facility features a dedicated autonomous highway-speed track, 35-acre safety-feature evaluation area and a high-tech command center.

Site Background: The Florida Evaluation Center was purchased in 2012 to serve as a winter coast down test site from January to March. Testing includes powertrain calibration as well as ride and NVH development.
