November 15, 2006 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

Chrysler Group and the UAW announced today that their employees continued the tradition of generous community support by contributing $11.3 million to the 2006 United Way Torch Drive, meeting its goal for 2006.

Total employee contributions were $8.49 million this year, with $5.7 million coming from Southeastern Michigan. In addition, a corporate gift of $2.42 million from DaimlerChrysler and the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund and $455,000 in one-time gifts brought total United Way Campaign contributions to more than $11.3 million.

"The Chrysler Group is known for its generosity and leadership, and I knew that I could count on Chrysler Group employees to maintain this tradition,” said Tom LaSorda, Chrysler Group President and CEO and Co-Chair of Chrysler Group’s 2006 United Way corporate campaign.  “The Company’s involvement with the United Way has allowed me to see first hand the benefits of our contributions and the lasting change we have made in the lives of local people.”

Chrysler Group’s 2006 United Way campaign kicked off in Auburn Hills on Aug. 23, and proved to be an exciting few weeks. Organizers and volunteers created a variety of fund-raising activities and incentives, including bake sales and use of four brand new Chrysler Group vehicles for an entire year.

The 2006 United Way of Southeastern Michigan campaign concluded on Nov. 15 with the 2006 United Way Victory Celebration in Detroit.   Of the $11.3 million, more than $5.7 million will go to the United Way of Southeastern Michigan. The balance of the contributions will go to other United Way chapters where Chrysler Group has operations.
